Project Description
At the Fort York Visitor Center, Bendheim’s Lamberts® channel glass creates a light-diffusing second skin facade. The translucent material defines the upper levels and becomes a part of the architectural “ramp” that ascends from the grounds to the viewing platform at the top. Set in our SF-60S single-glazed framing system, the channel glass rises from the landscape, running along the entire length of the structure. It features glass-to-glass corners in a variety of angles, ranging from 20 to 160 degrees. The ventilated channel glass facade offers a robust layer of protection to the buildings’ structural walls, shielding them from wind and moisture. The project features our 504 Rough Cast textured channel glass to help create a subtle “ghostly” aesthetic. At night, projected images turn the structure into a monumental art installation. The glass comprises more than 60% recycled material, including approximately 40% post-consumer content.
