Project Description
The Blu Dot Showroom in West Hollywood, California, winner of the prestigious American Architecture Award, makes a design statement by revamping a 70-year-old façade. Standard Architecture selected Bendheim’s channel glass for its refined aesthetic and ability to reflect, refract, and transmit light. Lighting – both natural and artificial – is a paramount element of the design. The project features our 504 Rough Cast channel glass with a sandblasted finish, single-glazed in our SF-60S rainscreen frame system. The channel glass creates a dynamic facade expression that changes as the sun tracks across the sky. During the daytime, the textured glass channels shimmer in reflected sunlight. Back-lit at night, they transform the building into a monumental lantern.
Bendheim’s channel glass contributes to the building’s lighting strategy through its anti-glare, light-diffusing properties, long spans, and minimal framing. The glass channels are captured at the top and bottom only – no interim vertical framing needed – creating a shadow-free back-lighting effect.
Our Lamberts® channel glass offers a stunning alternative to traditional wall systems, creating virtually seamless, luminous glass walls of unlimited lengths. The self-supporting glass channels can stand as tall as 23 feet, while requiring minimal framing. The end result is a uniform appearance with clean design lines.
Our channel glass systems are fully tested to stringent North American standards for structural deflection, interstory drift, and severe seismic displacement in accordance with ASTM E330-02, ASTM E331, ASTM E283, AAMA 501, and AAMA 501.4. The glass is sustainably produced by Glasfabrik Lamberts in an oxygen-and-gas-fired furnace, with low carbon footprint and up to 40% post-consumer recycled content. It is bird-friendly.
