Union County Juvenile Detention Center

Project Description

Described as โ€œoptimism that belies the building type,โ€ the 72,000 sq. ft. Center transcends correctional facility stereotypes. The spacious building promotes a sense of connection with the outside. Only one-room deep at any given point, the building wraps around a large outdoor courtyard, optimizing daylight and connectivity. Interior housing units incorporate a raked roof, creating a vertical window-wall of channel glass, almost 16โ€™ above the ground. The glass is free of mullions and allows abundant year-round daylight, while shielding interiors from the hot summer sun. The project features our 504 Rough Cast channel glass with a thermal interlayer, installed in our SF-60 frames.
