Project Description
Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, NY officially opened for commercial flights on May 23, 1931. During World War II, Floyd Bennett Field became an air station for both the United States Navy and Coast Guard. The airfield was decommissioned in 1970, but re-opened in 1974 under control of the National Park Service. Today, the airfield is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
As part of the airfield’s renovation, thousands of panes of Bendheim’s textured VintageWire™ glass were specified to restore the expansive windows of the hangars. The glass contains authentic chicken wire, the same as the original windows.
