Branch Bank of the United States

Project Description

Originally built between 1822 and 1824, the Second Branch Bank of the United States was designed by architect Martin Euclid Thompson. The bank was located on Wall Street in New York City until it was demolished in 1915. The building’s facade was saved, and moved into the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

A later restoration of the facade saw the addition of Bendheim’s Restoration Glass® in the windows. Restoration Glass® is an authentic hand-crafted glass produced in partnership with Glashütte Lamberts of Germany, produced in the original cylinder method. The glass matches antique window glass of the 17th through early 20th centuries, with a slight wavy appearance and occasional small bubbles and subtle surface imperfections.
