How does a rainscreen compare to other ways of rehabilitating a damaged facade (ex: repaint, fix masonry, etc.)?
A rainscreen cannot be directly compared to repainting a facade or fixing its masonry. Paint and new mortar do not offer any significant enhanced protection against water penetration or insulation benefits. They are aesthetic fixes and damage will likely reoccur. A rainscreen offers the possibility for extreme facade makeover, as well as proven protection against the elements. Bendheim’s decorative glass rainscreen systems, in particular, have been rigorously tested in accordance with ASTM and AAMA requirements for water penetration and structural performance, and achieved splendid results. Glass is also non-combustible, an essential added benefit, especially in areas requiring fire protection by building code.
Depending on the unique building circumstances, as well as the materials and techniques required to repair aesthetic facade damage, the cost of a Bendheim glass rainscreen could be on par with other fixes, while completely transforming the appearance of the building and providing advanced moisture protection.
