Bendheim’s is committed to continually developing new sustainable products and manufacturing processes, in turn creating evermore beautiful, innovative specialty glass and systems. The company officially launched the “Building a Clear Future” program in August 2023. The program is based on transparency, collaboration, and innovation, offering high-quality, environmentally friendly products and the well-being of our staff and communities.

Through the Building a Clear Future program, Bendheim is actively driving initiatives in carbon footprint reduction, energy efficiency, waste reduction, resource conservation, and promoting a diverse, inclusive workplace. Product Sustainability

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

Bendheim has achieved Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its products and are now published by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM International). ASTM International ensures that Bendheim’s EPDs meet the highest standards of reliability and global recognition (ISO standards 14025 & 21930) and reflect our commitment to transparency, accountability, and environmental stewardship.

Bendheim’s EPDs are Product-specific Type III EPDs that include external verification and external critical review. EPDs are standardized, verified documents that transparently present credible information about a product’s impact on the environment. These documents help architects, builders, and designers make informed, sustainability-focused decisions, and they contribute to achieving credits in green building certification programs, including LEED, BREEAM, Living Building Challenge (LBC), WELL, Green Star, and others. Bendheim EPDs are valued as 1.5 products for the purposes of credit achievement calculation.

Health Product Declarations (HPDs) are essential tools that provide architects and designers with transparent, credible information about material health impacts and sustainability, allowing them to make informed decisions based on health and sustainability criteria. Bendheim has published third-party-verified and third-party-prepared HPDs for its products and systems, reinforcing its commitment to health-conscious and sustainable practices and demonstrating a strong dedication to transparency and sustainability, distinguishing its products in a competitive market. Standardized, third-party HPDs simplify product comparisons, aiding LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge certifications, as well as the Green Globes and are valued up to 1.5 products for the purposes of credit achievement calculation.

Corporate Carbon Reduction

As one of its first steps forward, Bendheim formally committed to reducing its corporate Scope 1 and 2 emissions 30% by 2030. Continuous work to improve energy efficiency and transition towards 100% green energy will ensure that Bendheim achieves its goal of a 30% reduction in corporate carbon by 2030 and beyond. Reducing waste sent to landfills is another challenge for the company. Implementing the principles of the circular economy of reduction through prevention, reuse, and recycling has positively impacted people, the economy, and the environment.

Clean Energy & Energy Reduction Projects

Supporting the initiative of 30% reduction in corporate carbon by 2030, the company has installed solar panels at its Wayne, NJ facility, providing clean energy and reducing operational carbon emissions. Bendheim’s goal is to generate 100% of the energy needed not only for production, but also to cover office needs. To achieve this goal, Bendheim is expanding its solar panel project, further reducing greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels.

In addition to adopting renewable solar energy, Bendheim has launched numerous energy reduction projects aimed at improving efficiency and conserving resources. One of the projects accomplished in 2024 was replacing old fluorescents with energy efficient LED lighting throughout Bendheim’s facility. These combined efforts reduce operational emissions, and reflect the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable practices.

Waste Reduction & Recycling Initiatives

Bendheim has switched from the linear economy to the circular economy model, prioritizing the efficient use of materials to minimize waste during the glass fabrication process. Through advanced cutting and processing techniques, the company maximizes the yield from raw materials. Any leftover glass scraps are either repurposed within our production cycle or directed to trusted recycling partners, reducing landfill waste.

In 2024, Bendheim took significant steps toward sustainability by recycling more than 70% of its waste. This effort included glass, mirrors, back-painted glass, digitally printed glass, laminated glass, laminated decorative glass, wood, cardboard, steel, and aluminum.

In 2025, the company is striving to recycle all possible materials while simultaneously working on reducing overall waste generation and achieving its goal of “Zero Waste to Landfills”. By diverting these materials from landfills, Bendheim substantially reduced its environmental impact and carbon footprint. This effort achieved the following outcomes: energy savings, carbon emission reduction, landfill space saved, and raw materials conserved.

Bendheim is proud to be the first and only glass manufacturer globally to publish a JUST Label. This achievement reflects the company’s strong commitment to creating a healthy and supportive workplace that prioritizes the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of its employees, while also strengthening its connection to the communities it serves. By investing in workplace well-being programs, the company boosts employee health, morale, and productivity, and improves its ability to attract and retain top talent. These efforts also help foster a positive company culture and reinforce Bendheim’s dedication to diversity and inclusion at all levels.

In addition to its workplace benefits, the JUST Label can contribute up to 1 point under LEED v4/v4. It also supports compliance with other sustainability certifications, including WELL and the Living Building Challenge (LBC).

The U.S. Green Building Council supports the development of prosperous, healthy, and resilient communities through the transformation of the built environment. Bendheim has been a member of the U.S. Green Building Council since 2010 and is committed to being part of this global transformation.

mindful MATERIALS

mindful MATERIALS provides a platform and library for accessing information about sustainability practices. mindful MATERIALS developed the Common Materials Framework (CFM), which is the building industry’s first common language for sustainable building products and is aligned with the U.S. Green Building Council. Bendheim has been a member of mindful MATERIALS since May 2025.

HPD Collaborative

HPD Collaborative is dedicated to promoting transparency and sustainability in the building sector. It develops and maintains the HPD Open Standard, which provides a standardized format for reporting building product contents and associated health information. Bendheim has been a member of HPD Collaborative since 2023.

American Institute of Architects

The American Institute of Architects supports the architecture profession and promotes excellence in design, advocacy, and professional development. Bendheim has been a member of the American Institute of Architects since 2008.

ASTM International

Bendheim’s third-party-verified Environmental Product Declarations are published by ASTM International. As the program operator, ASTM ensures the LCA & EPDs are developed in compliance with ISO standards 14025 & 21930.

International Living Future Institute

JUST is a program for people who want to make changes within their organizations, and JUST label is a voluntary disclosure tool. It focuses on employee experience, health, well-being, and meaningful community connections. Bendheim’s JUST Label is published by the International Living Future Institute, and was first published in 2025.

3E Exchange

The 3E Exchange helps manufacturers to advance their supply chain and sustainability goals. Supply chain management and complying with chemical regulations will always be Bendheim’s priority, and 3E Exchange will help us confidently control material data, protect intellectual property, and streamline workflows that run up and down the supply chain. Bendheim has been a member of 3E Exchange since 2023.

Passaic County Habitat for Humanity

Bendheim has made significant contributions to the Passaic County Habitat for Humanity through the Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program. The investments are focused on constructing new energy-efficient homes, rehabilitating existing properties, addressing food insecurities, and critical home repairs for existing homeowners.
