Project Description
“No matter who you are, who you love, or what brings you to us, you are welcome at All Souls,” says this all-inclusive, LGBTQ-friendly Unitarian church. Located in a beautiful neighborhood on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the church had to upgrade its building envelope for improved performance, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort. Built in the early 1900s, before the invention of modern machine-made glass, the historic structure and its neo-Georgian windows called for the use of our authentic mouth-blown glass for the restoration. Studio Kraeher Architects lead the 2-year renovation. Principal Rolando Kraeher visited Bendheim’s warehouse in Wayne, NJ personally, to select the exact range of Lamberts® glass types required. He chose seven mouth-blown glass varieties, featuring a range of delicate hues and the characteristic striations typical of preindustrial glasswork. The mouth-blown glass sheets recreate the appearance of authentic antique window glass, preserving the church’s Colonial aesthetic. The Lamberts® glass was integrated into high-performance IGUs by Tower Insulating Glass of North Bellmore, NY. Bronx-based Kilroy Architectural Windows completed the installation.
“We are extremely proud of our partnership with the artisans at Lamberts, and of our ability to supply glass of this quality for historic restoration projects. When recapturing the style of times past, only authentic mouth-blown glass will do,” said Steven Jayson, Bendheim Co-Owner and Executive VP.
