b'It may at first seem counterintuitive to glaze an entire building that has relatively few windows. But the end result is a building that protects the valuable collections within while forming a memorable image on the citys skyline.Christopher B. Ingersoll, Principal & Shaw Center Project Director, Schwartz/SilverShaw Center for the Arts, Baton Rouge, LA by Schwartz Silver Architects and Eskew+Dumez+Ripple. The channel glass rainscreen facade features approximately 40,000 sq. ft. of glass. Most of the flanges face outward, adding texture to the facade. There are 2 (50 mm) gaps between the channels, and the glass cladding sits approximately 6 (150 mm) off a layer of waterproof aluminum. The system creates a durable and dependable protection against wind-driven moisture. It has survived multiple hurricanes without damage, including Katrina, Rita, and Ike.
