Project Description
Channel glass as a facade choice for parking structures offers durable protection against wind-driven moisture, a high degree of privacy by obscuring outside-in views, and daylighting advantages. At Optima Horizons, Bendheim’s channel glass clads the three-story parking structure at the base of the residential tower. The glass is oriented horizontally and positioned with the flanges facing outward for a unique aesthetic that adds texture to the structure. The flange-out design does not attract unwanted birds: the glass flanges are just under 2.5”, short of the 3” minimum roosting birds prefer.
The glass is set in a custom, single-glazed frame system by Bendheim, featuring a bespoke deep-orange color to coordinate with design highlights on the upper tower floors. The glass channels co-mingle with perforated and solid metal panels to provide the necessary amount of natural ventilation and light transmission. The 504 Rough Cast textured channel glass fills the parking structure with natural light, while protecting it from harmful moisture.
Bendheim’s channel glass is sustainably produced by Glasfabrik Lamberts in an oxygen-and-gas-fired furnace, with low carbon footprint and up to 40% post-consumer recycled content. It’s surface texture has been proven to be an effective bird collision deterrent.
