Project Description
Curved walls of double-glazed channel glass envelope a variety of spaces in this recreation center, including a gym, exercise rooms, and meeting spaces. Framed in the SF-60 system, the exterior channels of the walls feature the linear ridged Piccolo surface texture, while the interior channels feature the 504 Rough Cast textured. The interior channels also utilize Low-E thermal coating, which enhances the thermal performance of the glass.
Testimonials
From the Architect
"The use of Bendheim channel glass wall systems created the opportunity to explore solutions to the challenge of introducing natural light into the expansion of Cincinnati Recreation Commission’s McKie Recreation Center... by using this product, DNK’s design team was able to allow glowing natural light to become a focal point of the interior environment. It created a feeling of openness not previously experienced at the center. The product also makes a dramatic impression on the exterior of the building that invites community residents to come and enjoy the facility. Bendheim’s competitive cost for the product was a favorable factor in incorporating it into the project without budget concerns". — David Kirk, Principal at DNK Architects
From the Architect
"Bendheim’s channel glass allowed us to address all of the expanded building envelope issues in varied, distinct ways... it would be fair to say that we designed the project with channel glass in mind: we sought and successfully discovered in it the feature system combining unique optical qualities and a needed counterpoint to the original brick". — Raffi Tomassian, lead designer of the project, now Principal at RT Design Studio
