Bendheim Introduces EcoGlass™ Environmentally Friendly Architectural Glass
February 9, 2010

“We recognized the demand for enviro-friendly architectural glass with clearly identifiable green attributes, and collaborated with our long-time partner Lamberts to bring EcoGlass™ to market,” said Donald Jayson, Senior Vice President of Bendheim. “From manufacture to application, our EcoGlasses are exceptionally green and will contribute to a project’s aesthetics and sustainability.”
Manufactured by Glasfabrik Lamberts in Europe’s only clean-burning oxygen/fuel-fired cast glass furnace, EcoGlasses contain a minimum 20% pre-consumer (glass cullet) and 25% to 40% post-consumer recycled glass. For safety and security applications, Bendheim tempers EcoGlass™ in a highly energy-efficient oven and laminates utilizing environmentally-sensitive processes and materials.
EcoGlass™ has excellent daylighting qualities and is available in 10 textures, offering varying degrees of privacy. The glass can be supplied in combination with custom color interlayers or color coatings for decorative feature walls and backsplashes. Bendheim’s proprietary color-coating process employs isocyanate-free pigments and produces a VOC-free, maintenance-friendly product.
EcoGlass™ can contribute points to LEED® v.3: EA Credit 1 “Optimize Energy Performance,” MR Credit 4 “Recycled Content,” and IEQ Credits 8.1 and 8.2 “Daylight & Views.”
The glass is offered in 5/32” (4 mm), ¼” (6 mm) and 3/8” (10 mm) thicknesses and is available in sheet sizes up to 70” by 126” . Samples and more information are available from Bendheim: 1-800-606-7621 (East) / 1-800-900-3499 (West) / info@bendheim.com.
